I am directed by the High Commissioner for India to
refer to letter No. D• 3551-BPO/47 addressed ~by the Under
Secretary to the Government of India^to the Under Secretary
of State for India^_Ext ern al^epartment. India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. , on
the 19th August ^947, oiTlTie subject of the - conferment of
judicial powers on the Assistant Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. , Bahrain.
The Government of India in an express letter have now
intimated that since the Governor General of India in Council
mentioned in Articles 14 and 35 of the Bahrein Order in Council A regulation issued by the sovereign of the United Kingdom on the advice of the Privy Council. ,
1913> is no longer the appropriate authority under the Indian
Constitution which came into force since the 15th August 1947>
presumably the two notifications of the 19th August 1947,
will have to be issued by His Majesty’s Government unless
the Order in Council A regulation issued by the sovereign of the United Kingdom on the advice of the Privy Council. is amended.
2. The High Commissioner has been asked to bring this
matter to the notice of His Majesty’s Government and would
be glad if he may be informed of the action taken by them
in the matter.
