Sir
With reference to your despatch No,393 (K# 12018/2991/234)
— of the 20th October, I have the honour to forward to you herewith
a despatch addressed to you by His Majesty 1 s Consul at Shiraz,
regarding the rent of the Consular Resthouse at Isfahan,
2, ^Vs I have been obliged to report to you only too often
during the past year, the cost of living in general, and rents
in particular, have risen greatly. Under present conditions the
rent hitherto paid for the Resthouse at Isfahan is a low one, and
I think it was inevitable that the landlord should insist on an
increase. The increase of Rials 1080 for which he asks is not
very large, considering present conditions, and I trust that it
will be possible to secure sanction for the renewal o^ the lease
for one year from the 1st A.pril, 1938, at the rent now asked. I
should be grateful if a reply might be sent to Mr.Watkinson*s
despatch as soon as possible, since the landlord may come to
regret his offer if rents continue to rise,
3. I am sending a copy cf this despatch to His Majesty 1 s
Consul at Shiraz, No. 36.
I have the honour to be with the highest respect
Sir
Your most obedient
humble Servant
(Signed) H.J. Seymour
