greatly offended, proposed to withdraw their invitation to he
Seyyid to visit their country, saying that it he talked like that

by the ready tact of Mr. Archer, the Commissioner who
explained that, not appreciating the intricacies of high Arabic,
they must have misunderstood the Seyyid. I he latter was, on
his part, warned that he should, in future, confine his strictures
to the Turkish Government and the C.U.P. only.

The following is a summarized account of the celebration of
the festival of Bairam in the Mohammedan prisoners camp at
Zossen, near Berlin, from the German publication “ Islamische
Welt ” of November last. As an example of the readiness or
the Germans to avail themselves of the opportunity for a little
tactful and effective propaganda, it is not without interest.
There are, it seems, some 14,000 prisoners in the camp, from
all parts of the Mohammedan world, and taken from Russians,
French and British.
Turks who were present in Berlin at the time, and also
certain German friends, were invited to attend the celebration,
the Government providing conveyances for them from the station
