Office in regard to the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , and the primary
responsibility for the administration and for the conduct of the
political affairs oi the Gulf Sheikhdoms is now concentrated in
the India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. and the Government of India* Unless, therefore,
the Government of India desire to call attention to any
consideration of substance in connection with this matter, which
has been hitherto overlooked, the Secretary of dtate would be
glad if the necessary steps for the registration of the Chargah
station nry be taken by the Government of India without further
delay. A copy is enclosed of a further letter from the /dir
Ministry setting out certain additional particulars. The
Government of India will no doubt consider whether a change
in the call sign of the station is desirable.
3 * I am to forward with this letter copy of a letter from
the Air linistry relating to an enquiry by Imperial Airways in
regard to the registration of telegraphic addresses at 3hargah.
In this matter as in others, the Secretary of State considered it
desirable that stations in the Gulf area should conform generally
with the Indian system, and he will accordin, ly be glad if the
Government of India will take the necessary steps in correspondence
