This bundle consists of summaries, and partial transcripts, of secret letters received from the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. (16 and 25 April 1856, Numbers 27-29). The amount of detail for each entry therefore varies.
The despatches consist of updates from Aden, the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , and Sind. They include discussion of ‘treasonable correspondence between Ali Boo Bekr and the Foutheli Chief', proposals to remove the Al Ali from Demaun, and the British blockade of Berbera.
