This bundle consists of letters from Sir James Outram to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. of the East India Company, received 2 July 1857. The letters consist of: a copy of a letter from Outram to the Governor General of India, of 29 May 1857, regarding recommendations for military awards; a summary of a letter from Outram to Lieutenant General Sir H Somerset, ‘with a long list of officers recommended for reward’; and a summary of a letter to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. of 1 June 1857, consisting of a copy of a letter to the Secretary to the Government of Calcutta of 1 June, stating ‘Reduction of the baggage cattle:- camels and mules’.
