On receipt of your letter EXT.5491/45 of
24th October we asked the itinhassador at Bagdad
for his views on the proposal that Lord Wavell
should invite the Regent of Iraq to visit India.
We now have Sir Hugh Stonehewer-Bird*s
reply, a copy of which I enclose. You will see
that he shares our view that such a visit would
he very desirable, if it could be arranged for
say the spring of 1946 (or perhaps even later).
We agree with the Ambassador that the
invitation, when it is sent, had better not mention
Nari Said or any other Iraqi politician by name,
and that it should be left to His Royal Highness
to choose his own suite.
