After Compliments,
We acknowledge receipt of your letter of
17th March 1936, the contents of which we have duly noted.
We have received from H.E. the Political
Resident in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. the approval of H.B.M , s
Government to the agreement which we have concluded
with you and have sent our reply to His Excellency’s
letter.
We also note that in the meanwhile discussions
were in progress between your London Principals and
the Oil Concessions Company Limited for concluding an
agreement between us and the Oil Concessions Company Limited
for a longer period.
fe have to inform you that the agreement
which we have concluded through Mr. H.F. Williamson
was an exploration agreement for two years and we have
so far not known the result achieved by the survey
party so that we may realise if there is any oil source
for exploitation in our territory.
Secondly, with regard to the appointment
of Major Prank Holmes to represent the Company for
negotiating with us we have to state that we cannot
negotiate with the Company’s representatives before
knowing the present position.

The file concerns negotiations over the granting of oil concessions to companies with a significant British interest by a number of states on the Trucial Coast A name used by Britain from the nineteenth century to 1971 to refer to the present-day United Arab Emirates. : Dubai, Sharjah, Ras-al-Khaimah, Abu Dhabi, and Ajman. The negotiations were initially with the Anglo-Persian Oil Company Limited (APOC) (later known as the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (AIOC)) and the D'Arcy Exploration Company Limited, but D'Arcy's rights were subsequently taken over by Petroleum Concessions Limited (PCL) (a subsidiary company of the Iraq Petroleum Company (IPC), but in which the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company were a partner).
