With regard to the Shai&h of Dibai ? s statement that
the Company* $ letter contravenes the Agreement, already
concluded between him and the Company, this of course is not
so, but I do not think there is any need for us to intervene
at this stage.
g* Please write to Holmes and inform him of the contents
of the Shaikh* s letter, adding that I think he hao better see
the Shaikh and clear up the matter, and that as the Bnea^n
obviously sets great store by Ha,ji Williamson I am ox opinion
that he should accompany any survey party s^nt into tne
gh&i&h*s territory.

unnecessary correspondence X here arranged with tae Anglo-
Perslaa Oil Coapany at Abadan that he. Holmes, will keep
them informed of the progress of the whole of his work on

The file concerns negotiations over the granting of oil concessions to companies with a significant British interest by a number of states on the Trucial Coast A name used by Britain from the nineteenth century to 1971 to refer to the present-day United Arab Emirates. : Dubai, Sharjah, Ras-al-Khaimah, Abu Dhabi, and Ajman. The negotiations were initially with the Anglo-Persian Oil Company Limited (APOC) (later known as the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (AIOC)) and the D'Arcy Exploration Company Limited, but D'Arcy's rights were subsequently taken over by Petroleum Concessions Limited (PCL) (a subsidiary company of the Iraq Petroleum Company (IPC), but in which the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company were a partner).
