mo 1 ,; Th 1 Cll 1 nstian Marriage Regulation, 1922 (King’s Regulation No. 2 of
1922), is hereby amended as under: —
Aitei Article 1 there shall be inserted the following new Article:
10P J A ’ application to Bahrein, the Indian Christian Marriage Act,
1872, shall be modified as follows: —
(a) Add as the third paragraph to Section 38—“ or, if neither of the
parties dwells or has dwelt within the district of any Marriage
Registrar, shall give the like notice to the Marriage Registrar by
° r be l fore whom the marriage is intended to be solemnised.’’
(/>) Insert between ^ the first and second clauses of the proviso to
Section 41 that, in the case of parties neither of whom dwells,
oi has dwelt, within the district of any Marriage Registrar, the
i larriage Registrar is satisfied that the marriage cannot
conveniently be solemnised at the place where either of the
parties has dwelt and that the marriage is not clandestine.’’

Amendments to the regulation were thought necessary in order to authorise the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. , Bahrain, to marry non-British subjects (The Christian Marriage (Amendment) Regulation, 1946) and those who were resident in Saudi Arabia (The Christian Marriage (Amendment) Regulation, 1948). Discussion of the need for and wording of the amendments occur in exchanges between officials at the India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947.
