SEAR (JAR lAtUfUv*
(1) Imperial Coimniinicat ions Committee. Minutes of
19tli July 1933. No answer required.
(2) E.& 0.5344/33. Imperial Airways wish to register
telegraphic addresses at Shargar. This has been referred
to the Post Office also and if the Post Office are to
register Shargaj* then the whole thing is a question for
them. If not, what Airways do there must be regulated
by the Indian rules.
(3) Question, of registration. The Gulf has now been
transferred by the Cabinet finally to the India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. and
if the telegraph system, like the Post Office, is to be
an Indian one throughout the Gulf it would be proper that
India should be told that the Secretary of State thought
it best that public telegraph offices in the area should
be dealt with as Indian offices, in which case the
Political Department in India would have to deal with
the Indian Post Office and secure registration with an
Indian nmber. It is of no great importance but if
there are to be more stations it is untidy that the
Shargar station should be under G.P.O. registration
while the rest are Indian, and I am prepared to agree
that,if the system is to be Indian, India shall be ordered
to register in this case.
I have spoken to Laithwaite and he is having
certain researches made by Mr. I.lorley and asks that these
papers may be held up meanwhile.
