financial condition of the State M though
serious and calling for prompt remedial
measures, is not desperate". It appears that
it should be possible to reduce the bill of the
chief creditor from Rs. 86,000 to about half a
lakh One lakh is equal to one hundred thousand rupees ; that a number of minor administrative
economies can probably be effected (paragraph
9); and that a saving of about Rs.12,000
(this figure represents a compromise reached
after personal investigation by the Resident)
