FOREIGN SERVICE REGULATION No. 17
ACCEPTANCE OF OUTSIDE APPOINTMENTS
1. The assent of the Secretary of State must be obtained
before a member of Grades 1-5 of Branch A of the Foreign Service,
^ ,!,m ) lesignation or retirement, accepts an appointment in a
business or other body: —
(a) which is in contractual relationship with the Government;
(t>) which is in receipt of any subsidies or their equivalent from
the Government;
(c) in which the Government is a shareholder;
(d) which is in receipt from the Government of any loans,
guaiantees, or other forms of capital assistance;
(e) with which Services or Departments or Branches of
Government are, as a matter of course, in a special
relationship; and
(/) any semi-public organisation brought into being by the
Government and/or by Parliament.
Aftei the lapse of two years from the date of retirement,
such assent will no longer be required.
