1. 51%ejSiring of the contract between Shell
and Gulf is 10 years.
2. Quantities covered by the Agreement
rise from 15,000 barrels per day in 1947 up to
a maximum of some 200,000 barrels per day.
3. It is not, we believe, intended that the
Agreement should cover the whole of the Gulf share
in KOwfcit crude. There is likely to be a margin
which Gulf will market themselves.
4. Under the Agreement tfee Shell will take over
-the crude^/at KOvfcit and dispose of it without any
restrictions on the Gulf side, through the Shell
organisation. This therefore involves shipping,
refining and marketing of Kow£it oil by Shell.
5. 34*© Agreement provides for the pooling of
proceeds between Shell and Gulf. This means
that Shell will benefit from low production costs
and Gulf from Shell efficiency in distribution.
6. It is probable that part of the crude oil
will at a later stage be refined by Shell in the
U.K.
7. Wie Agreement has been studied by Departments
and approved in general by Ministers. It is^Aauv**/',
regarded as a purely commercial transaction.

The papers also include: correspondence concerning a proposal from the Arabian-American Oil Company (Aramco) for a hydrographic survey of the coast of Koweit [Kuwait] (including the Kuwait Neutral Zone), May-August 1945; and discussion of agreements between various oil companies (including the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey, and the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company) relating to Kuwait oil, December 1946-June 1947.

The file includes a divider, which gives a list of correspondence references contained in the file by year. This is placed at the back of the correspondence.
