Ttie new term proceeded uneventfully tbougn t^re was
some trouble at first at tbe Mubarrak school which grew
from tbe seeds wtiich were sown by tbe previous headmaster
and some of tbe members of tbe liajlis; the headmaster
of tbe fan amah Sbia school also resented somewhat being
under tbe supervision of tbe Inspector and nas created some
difficulties.

There are at present eight government schools, siz for
boys and two for girls, four of the boys’ schools are
Sunni and two are Sbia. The registered numbers of stu
dents is 500 boys and 100 girls, but the actual everage
of daily attendances is somewhat lcv/er. The schools are
situated in Manama, Uuharrak, Hedd, Bafaa and 3uk alKUamis.
Previously, wtien tne schools were under the direct
administration of the two councils their monthly expendi
ture amounted to as.5,600/-, at present the average monthly
expenditure is about Ks.3,600/- which includes the salary
of the Inspector and a proportion of the pay of ^ne agri
culturist who teaches in the schools, the total attendance
is not less than before and the standard of education is
very much better. This saving has been achieved by a
proper control of the finances by the government instead
of independent control by the two councilo.
