I have the honour to enclose herewith for the information
• IGP/P/n, dated 11th July 1924) of the Government of India, a copy of the
marginally cited memorandum from the Political dgent, Bahrain,
covering a translation of the Bahrain ^ats Budget for the
Arabic year commencing 1st .h ihar. m 1343 (3rd x^u^us t 19*-^ j •
2. 7-e nressnt Budget hsing the first of its kind as far
as the Bahrain 3tat- is concerned, it is not possible to
draw any comparison with those of former years. A rough
budget for one month was submitted to the Government of India
predecessor under cover of his despatch Bo.^lo-^, dated
the 22nd ^ecember 1923, which gave an indication of the
pleasingly solvent condition of the state Finances, due mainly
to the expert handling of the Customs Department by LIr.Bower.
3. The budget now presented shows a marked advance in almost :
every direction, and at the same time the estimated balance
at the close of the year 1343 is greater proportionately than
the estimated surplus for one month last jecenb^r.
4. uith reference to this anticipated surplus of 3 s. 2,46,31C
I understand that a revised Budget estimate will probably be
submitted later on, proposing an increase of expenditure on the
iiater Jupply Jchems and the Blectric Power 3cheme.
5. I venture to think that 11ajor Daly deserves credit for an
ambitious and comprehensive Budget, and I trust that the
