Commentary by Muḥammad Kāẓim ibn ‘Abd al-‘Alī al-Tankābunī (محمد كاظم عبد العلي التنكابني, d. after 1623-4, see al-Amīn, Mustadrakāt a‘yān al-shī‘ah , vol 2, p. 308) on the Anatomy of the Spheres (تشريح الأفلاك) by al-Tankābunī's teacher Bahā’ al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Ḥusayn al-‘Āmilī (بهاء الدين محمد بن حسين العاملي; d. 1621). The title of the commentary is mentioned on f. 3v, line 9. Al-Tankābunī completed his commentary at Mashhad on 6 Dhū al-Ḥijjah 1007/30 June 1599 (see ff. 159v, line 6-160r, line 1, transcribed below), and dedicated it to the Safavid sultan Abū al-Muẓaffar Shāh ‘Abbās (I) al-Ḥusaynī al-Mūsawī (ابو المظفر شاه عباس الحسيني الموسوي الصفوي, reg. 1587-1629, see f. 4v, lines 5-6).

The text contains numerous diagrams.

The copy was completed on 8 Rajab 1033/26 April 1624 by Muḥammad Sa‘īd ibn Ḥājjī (?) Muḥammad al-Kīlānī (محمد سعيد بن حاجي [؟] محمد الكيلاني, see colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text. , f. 160r, lines 6-8, transcribed below).

الحمد لله الذي شرح صدورنا لتشريح الأفلاك في

نهاية الإدراك والصلوة على نبيه ملخّس هيئة

عالم الفتوة ومنتهي الإدراك في تقاسيم

أفلاك النبوة ...

Ends (ff. 159v, line 6-160r, line 4):

... قد استرحت من (؟)

نقل هذا الشرح من السواد إلى البياض بعون

الله الملك الفياض لستٍ خلون من ذي الحجة الحرام

سنة ألف وسبع من الهجرة خير البرية على الصلاع (؟)

بها أفضل الصلوة والتحية بمشهد سيدنا ومولانا

الإمام الهمام الثامن الضامن أبي الحسن علي بن موسى

الرضا عليه من الصلوات أفضلها ومن التحيات

أكملها وأنا المتوسل به المعتسم بجيل ولايته المتشبث

يذليله في دنياي وعقباي ومماتي ومحياي محمد كاظم

بن عبد العلي التنكابني
