This file contains miscellaneous correspondence consisting primarily of letters between the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. and the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. in Muscat. The subject matter of the correspondence covers a range of subjects, most of them pertaining to the resolution of commercial and legal matters with the Secretary to the Government of India based in Bombay. Many letters also discuss the changing political situation in Oman, particularly the British discussions of support for the Sultan of Muscat. Two letters from the Sultan are included in the correspondence.
