With reference to Mr. Gibson^ letter
M A-1078/38
of the 6th December, PZ.7899/37, I am commanded by
My Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to forward
for the information of the Secretary of State for
India, a copy of a report on the passage of His
Highness the Sheikh of Bahrein from Aden to Jedda in
January 1938.
2. I am to add that at Aden purchases were
made on His Highness* behalf of certain articles
described in the attached schedule at a cost of 62
Rupees Indian silver coin also widely used in the Persian Gulf. and 10 Annas. My Lords understand that the
Sheikh has agreed that the cost of these articles shall
be reclaimed from him, and I am to request that
arrangements may be made for the amount stated to
be recovered and credited to the Director of Navy
Accounts.

The file concerns the visit of the Ruler of Bahrain, Shaikh Sir Hamad bin Isa al Khalifah [Ḥamad bin ‘Īsá Āl Khalīfah], to Mecca in order to undertake the Hajj (January 1938).

The papers include: the decision to allow Shaikh Hamad to travel to Saudi Arabia aboard a Royal Navy ship (HMS Londonderry ); reports on the Shaikh's visit by HM Minister at Jedda (Sir Reader William Bullard); and a report on the Shaikh's passage on the Londonderry , with papers concerning a request for payment for the purchase of articles on board ship for the use of the Shaikh, June - July 1938.
