C.G.S., G.H.q.:-
H Your A/2522/1, September 25th 1918, enclosing
A.H.q. India 7178/1 Q.F.G. 2 September 6th, returned
herewith,
2, The restriction complained of Toy Tessrs. S.D.
Sassoon & Co. is that imposed by Notification No. 4 of
November 20th 1917 (copy attached). By otification of
February 14th 1918 the G.O.C. in Chief has authorised
certain officials to sanction alienations of property
thereunder. , * ^
3. No final decision has yet b«en given in the
matter: Nr. ^orden the agent of Messrs. 15.B.Sassoon & Co.
is at present in Baghdad anijias had several interviews
with me on the subject: no final decision has yet been
reached.
4. At 1^ast one plot of land the acquisition of
which is desired falls within the area the acquisition
of which by Government has I understand been urged
by the I.G.C.
5. The matter is eminently one for settlement
by the Civil Administration, subject to the orders of
the G.O.C. in Chief in .“’esopotamia, and I trust that
Messrs 3.D.Sassoon will be directed to address themselves
to this oflice on the subject.

attorney which in my ooinion justifies me in recog
nizing them as fully accredited agents of the firm and
the former has b^en somewhat disingenuous in the matter
