I have the honour to submit the following report regarding
the visit of the Rt. Honourable Mr. Anthony Aden, P.0. , L.C. to
Bahrain.
2 . mr. isden arrived by air from Abadan with his son Nicholas
and Colonel Palmer at 12.20 p.m. on the 13th January. At 1.30
p.m. he lunched with His Highness Shaikh Salman at the Gudhabiyah
Palace near Manama. He was received witn a Guard ci Honour and
a band and 25 persons in all including British and American subjects
and members of the A1 Khalifah were entertained to lunch. ihe
Shaikh who had been greatly excited ever since the news of Mr.Aden's
impending visit was received gave him a very warm welcome and con
versed with him at length on a variety of subjects. Nothing of
immediate political importance was touched on. Before Mr. Eden
left the Palace the Shaikh presented him with a very fine sword and
an Arab dress.
3 , in the afternoon I drove Mr. Eden to Awali where he took
tea with Mr. and Mrs. Russell Brown and met several members of the
Bahrain Petroleum Company. On the way back we visited the Virgins'
Pool and other spots of interest on thq Island. Later in the
evening Mr. Eden attended a small cocktail party at the Political
agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. and I gave a dinner party for him at the Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. .
4. Mr. Eden and hi£ party left for Riyadh at 9.15 a.m. on the
14th January in an aeroplane which had kindly been provided by the
Arabian American Oil Company. Shaikh Hafiz Vvahba arrived in this
lUroplane in the early morning to meet Mr. Eden and accompanied him
to Riyadh.
