Hava i Officer saw no objection to informing the Persian
Government of visits through the diplomatic channel in
addition to direct notification to the port concerned,
and the Foreign Office proposed to authorise Mr.
Knatchbull-Hugessen to reach an arrangement on tnese
lines at Tehran. The Admiralty, however, feared
that if the programmes of sloops were communicated to
Tehran, the Persian Government might be tempted to
forbid them access to Persian ports. The

Persians on this subject is at P.Z.1962/35. The
question is of some importance since under the Persian
regulations a salute of 11 guns is accorded to a
