The Conpany shall neasure the Substances "by a nethjd customarily
usee m pood technical practice anl the Shaikh by his representative
ouly authorised by him shall have the ri^ht to observe such measurir^
ana to examine and test whatever appliances nay be used for such
measuring. Such representative shall comply uith all necessary and
usual safeguards for the prevention of fire and other accident: and
shall make all examinations and tests at such times and in such
manner as will cause the minimum of interference with the Company's
oporaoions. If upon such examination or testing any such appliance
shall be found to be out of order the Company will cause the same to
ee put m order at its own expense within a reasonable time, and if
upon any such examination aforesaid any error shall be discovered
an any such appliance, such error shall - of the Shaikh so decides
after hearing the Company's explanation - be considered to hav 3 existed
for Three (3) Calendar Months previous to the discovery thereof or
from the last occasion of examining the sane in case such occasion
shall uu within such period of Three Calendar Months and the
Royalty shall be adjusted accordingly, if the Company should find it
necessary to alter, repair or replace any noasur ng appliances it
liall give reasonable notice to the Shaikh or has reoresentative to
enable a representative of the Shaikh to be present durim such
alteration, repair or replacement# °
ihe Company shall keep full and correct records of all
measurements as aforesaid and the said representative of the Shaikh
3 ha ^ c access at a11 reasonable times to such records and shall be
at liberty to make extracts' from then. Such records shall be treated
eonfidencial oy the shaikh and his representative.

The papers include copies of the agreement (signed on 20 March 1945); copies (and draft) of the political agreement (signed on 29 January 1946) between HM Government and Petroleum Concessions Limited, relating to the Umm-al-Qaiwain oil concession; correspondence between the India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. , other British Government officials, Petroleum Concessions Limited, and its subsidiary Petroleum Development ( Trucial Coast A name used by Britain from the nineteenth century to 1971 to refer to the present-day United Arab Emirates. ) Limited concerning the agreements; and the Ruler's agreement not to enter into negotiations with a bank for permission to open a branch or agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. in his country unless he had first obtained the approval of the British Government.
