XVII. — From Pasni to Kuh-i-Malek Siah via Turbat,
Dizak, and L'idis. 452 mdes. 30 stages.
Fit for camels throughout, but not for wheeled
artillery. Water, fuel, and camel-grazing are easily
procurable at all stages, except in the Simish Kaur
between Dizak and Gusht, where the water is undrinkable
and grazing scanty. Supplies are plentiful at Turbat
and Ladis, but are elsewhere unobtainable.
XVIII.—From Chahbah to Bami'ur via Geh and
Kasrkand. 275 miles. 20 stages.
Fit for camels throughout, but impracticable for
wheeled artillery between Kasrkand and Bampur. Sup
plies are procurable at Champ, but otherwise scarce.
Water, wood, and camel-graziug are obtainable through
out. °
XIX.—From Herat to Meshed via Ghurian and
Turbat-i-Sheikh Jam. 210 miles. 12 stages.
A good and level road, mostly over alluvial soil
practicable for wheeled artillery. Supplies and water
are plentiful throughout. From Herat to the Persian
frontier it is reported !o be lit for wheeled transport.
An alternative route to Karez runs along the right bank
of the Han Rud via Tirpul, and is equally good
Distance to Meshed 234 miles.
XXa—F rom Quetta to Xasratabad (Sistan) via
Nushki and Robat (Kuh-i-Malek Siah). 569 miles.

(a.) Quetta to Robat (Persian frontier) via Dalbandin,
Kundi, and Saindak, keeping south of the Afghau-
Baluch frontier. 463 miles. 25 stages.
This is a much-used trade route and has lately been
improved. Wells have been sunk at intervals, and
tortified thanas (police-posts) have been established alono-
the route, to secure the safety of caravans. CameF
grazing is with difficulty obtainable throughout, and
grass and supplies are scarce.
