500 tons which fly the flag of one of the parties to the
Convention. Under this convention, if no authority to
fly the flag is forthcoming, or if, in spite of such
authority, strong suspicion still exists that the vessel

may be conducted to the nearest port of the Power whose
flag she has flown. Ho right of search is given by the

8* By custom, hov/ever, native vessels within the
Persian Calf may be searched for arms except as stated lu

found to be carrying & greater number of arms than is
necessary for the normal crew, it may be assumed that.
In the absence of a special license, they are doing so
illegally and any rifles or pistols (but not swords or
daggers) in excess of this number should be confiscated*
