K. a it M A N,
12th January, 1916.
STATION NT.
On the 22nd December about 10 o'clock In the
night I received from Mr. Zugmayer, the German
Consular agent at Kerman a few lines asking me to
call on him on the 23rd at 10 o'clock in the morning
To make .things clear 1 must here first of all
give a few words of explanation.
Beginning of July last year Mr. Zugmayer and
another German gentleman entered Kerman and were
warmly received t>y a large part of the population.
Though my wife and myself had our passports since
1900 with the German Legation in Teheran and my
niece and ray nephew deposited them there when coming
to this country, I as the Manager of an English firm
did not see my way to go and greet Mr. Zugmayer, as
at that time he had not been acknowledged by the
authorities as German Consul.
I gave him the explanation for staying away hy
letter and he himself answered my letter in the most
considered way, saying that he understood my
difficult position and that he thought it best that
so far we should not meet, as he would not like to
endanger my position. I thanked him again by
letter for his consideration. From that day up to
the 12th December no correspondence nor verbal
conversation took place between the Germans and
myself.
