On the 12th December the English Consul
decided to evacuate with his colony Kerman, As I
personally was in no danger and I thought it my
duty to look after the big stock Messrs, The Fritz
and La Rue Company at New York had bought up, I
decided to remain here, I intended to send my wife
and my niece with the English Colony to the coast,
but my wife refused to leave me, I therefore went ^
the same day to see Mr, Zugmayer to ask him what he
thought about the remaining of my wife and my niece
here, I could see that he was not very keen to know
them here, but he said that he thinks that he would
be able to protect us. He asked me to warn the
English people to leave as soon as possible as he was
not sure how long still the ruffians in town could
be kept back from doing mischief. I did so. The
following day again I went backwards and forwards as
a neutral between Germans and English and I may say
that 1 found Mr. Zugmayer always most correct and
very anxious that nothing should happen, especially
to ladies and children. He and his friends showed
themselves also very friendly towards me but they
never had called on my ladies. So, as you see, so
far no real friendly relations between each other had
been established.
On the 23rd December I went at 10 o’clock to
see Mr. Zugmayer when he told me that he was very
sorry to inform me that he has orders to seize what
ever belongs to the O.C.M., as an English firm.
He explained that the English Consul at Bunder-Abbas
had taken all the carpets laying there and belonging
to the German firm "Retag M and sold it for the
benefit
