The last messengers arrivedl at HAIii only a few days before
IIOHAISEJ) left with the deputation for LH2CCA. They brought a
letter from IBi* which MOSAMBD himself saw t in which IBK
bAUP urged IBH BABHID to join forces with him against "the
common enemy".. Letter was unsigned but written in usual BLDU
style with "i'rora To.. "at head and stated that
bearers would give him all information. XBK KAi^UIi) replied he
could not accept any such vague proposals and asfced in his letter
for some definition of "the common enemy" and IBN & U3)*S plans.
Before sending back IBB BAUD'S messengers IBB RASHID carefully
paraded before them the presents he had recently received from
King HUSB&1R» UOHAAI&D said IBB BAUD'S letter and a copy of
IB1I RASHID'S could be obtained from HAIL if required. I h ive
advised £110 HUBBKIK to ask IBB RaSHID to send them.
Whilst at EL (MEK (Lmir ABDULLAH'S H.Q.) on hia way to
iOSCCA, UOHAlIt:D received a letter dated Slat October 1018 from
IBE RASHID in which latter said he had no doubt IBS SAUL had it
in mind to assist KAK.HKI at MBEIIA, and that hia real object in
trying to cultivate good relations with himself (IBH RASHID) was
t0 obtain his oo-operation in this scheme. IBK RASHID wrote
that the Emirs AJ,I and AI3DULLAH should close in round MEDI8A and
prevent IHE tiaTO having any access to the town. I saw this
letter.
MOHAiiKD gave as his own view that IBH ha\ing done
nothing throughout the war to assist the Allies against the
H>iror wanted at the end to pose as the conqueror of MR.DIHA
therlby ingratiating himself with His Majesty's Dovernmont and
at the same time "wiping the eye" of the tiherifians. ihie

It includes correspondence regarding: the desire of Bin Rashid for friendly relations with HM Government, and for help and protection from the British Government; HM Government’s decision to open relations and negotiations with Bin Rashid; the suggestion of the High Commissioner for Egypt that he should act as a medium in negotiations between HM Government, the King of Hedjaz (King Hussein), Bin Saud [Ibn Saud] and Bin Rashid; the proposed British mission to Bin Rashid; and the murder of Bin Rashid by Abdullah Bin Tallah.
The correspondence largely consists of copy correspondence between the Foreign Office and the following: the High Commissioner for Egypt (Sir Francis Reginald Wingate, followed by Edmund Henry Hynman Allenby); the Civil Commissioner, Baghdad; the High Commissioner, Constantinople (A Calthorpe); and the Counsellor of the Embassy, Cairo (Milne Cheetham).
