The Ainir Sa’ud ihn Ahdul Aziz ar-Rashid who has ruled ior
twenty-four years over the Rashidi Emirate in Nejd, Northern Ar
pectfuily
abia, which he inherited form his ancestors, begs respec
to lay before your Majesty the following circumstance
Ever since the establishment of this Emirate up to^TTe date
(date omitted) we have been loyally devoted zo the neighbouring
Turkish Empire by reason of our friendly relations and the tits
of religion.
We trust that Your Majesty and the nobility and people of
England will readily appreciate the devotion we have shown to our
masters in spite of the fact that here we are altogether dep;ived
of the benefits of modern civilisation and progress.
Now that your Imperial Government has concluded an armistice
with the Ottoman Government and that a state of peace exists
with the Allies, and now that your Government has extended its
friendship and protection to tire people of Islam, tne Emiruoe
desires to enter into permanent friendly relations with your Im
perial Government, and on tnis account desires tnat your Imperial
Government should extend to tnis Emirate and its people the pro
tection and aid which will enable it to embark on a career of
happiness, progress and independence.

The volume contains papers mostly concerning relations between HM Government and Bin Rashid [Sa`ud (II) ibn Abdul Aziz al Rashid], Emir of Hail [Jabal Shammar], in the Nejd region of Arabia.
It includes correspondence regarding: the desire of Bin Rashid for friendly relations with HM Government, and for help and protection from the British Government; HM Government’s decision to open relations and negotiations with Bin Rashid; the suggestion of the High Commissioner for Egypt that he should act as a medium in negotiations between HM Government, the King of Hedjaz (King Hussein), Bin Saud [Ibn Saud] and Bin Rashid; the proposed British mission to Bin Rashid; and the murder of Bin Rashid by Abdullah Bin Tallah.
The correspondence largely consists of copy correspondence between the Foreign Office and the following: the High Commissioner for Egypt (Sir Francis Reginald Wingate, followed by Edmund Henry Hynman Allenby); the Civil Commissioner, Baghdad; the High Commissioner, Constantinople (A Calthorpe); and the Counsellor of the Embassy, Cairo (Milne Cheetham).
