PERSIA.
Movements.
Officers. —Lieut. B. B. Haynes, 3-19th
Hyderabad Regiment, on return from leave,
arrived at Bu.shire on the 25th June and
left for Jask on the 7 th July.
Capt. Bertram S. Thomas, O.B.E., Assis
tant British Representative, Trans-Jordania,
a candidate for the appointment of Finan
cial Adviser, Muscat, arrived at Bushire
from Amman on the Oth and left on the 7th
for India where he interviewed the Sultan
and the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. .
N07i-officials. —Herr Willnow, Agent for
the Hansa Line, left Bushire on the 4th for
Shiraz where he intends to stay until the
middle of September. He talks of returning
to Germany in the autumn.
Hap Abdul Hasan, Mushir-ut-Tujjar,
eldest son of Haji Rais-ut-Tujjar, C.T.E.,
left Mohammerah on the 8th for Egypt and
Europe rid Baghdad for his health. He is a
travelled and cultured man, does most of his
father’s business now, and assists the Shaikh
of Mohammerah in dealing with political
questions.

Shaikh Hamad bin Isa A1 Khalifa, C.S.I.,
Regent of Bahrain, with two sons and
accompanied by Major C. K. Daly, the Politi
cal Agent, arrived at Bushire from Bahrain
on the morning of the 24 th IrT ILL MTS.
“ Lawrence ”. The party spent the day at
the Sabzabad Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. and left in the
evening for Kuwait and Basra. They re
turned to Bahrain by mail steamer on the
31st.
His Excellency Shaikh Ahmad bin Jabir
A1 Subah, C.I.E., Shaikh of Kuwait, arrived
at Ahwaz on the 25th, as the guest of the
Shaikh of Mohammerah. On the 26th, he
visited the Oil Fields of the Anglo-Persian
Oil Company under the guidance of Mr.
Mackie of the Company. He seems to have
been highly impressed with the magnitude
of the works, and now talks of coming to
terms with the Company in regard to the
Kuwait Concession.
Persian officials. —Mirza Abul Qasim
Khan, Salar-i-Ehtisham, Teherani, a protege
of Viqar-ul-Mulk, was sent by the latter to
replace Reza Khan as Deputy Governor of
Jask. He arrived there on the 11th.

Agha YVethiq-i-Huzur, Deputy Governor
of Lingah, arrived at that port from Bushire
on the 14th.
M. Simon, late Mudir of Customs at
Charbar, arrived at Bandar Abbas on the
17th, on transfer.
Naib Abdul Husain Khan, Military Gover
nor of Borasjun, visited Bushire from the
18th to the 20th.
His Excellency Sekat-ul-Mulk, Governor-
General of Khuzistan, visited Abadan and
Basra from the 20th to the 23rd.
Health, South Persia Potts. —No cases of
infectious disease occuired during month.
All quarantine restrictions have been
removed.
Military. —The Military Commander at
Bushire notified on the 2nd that he would
recruit men for military service.
The troops in Bushire, whose pay was
three months in arrears, have received pay
for the month of Hamal (21st March
to 20th April 1924.)
118 packages of ammunition, landed from
S.S. “ Niedenfels ” on the 19th June,
were sent on the 14th July by camel Caravan
to Shiraz. Other packages landed contained
parts for an aeroplane which has been
assembled at the Bushire aerodrome, pre
paratory to being flown to Tehran.
190 mules were commandeered by the
Military at Bushire to transport military
stores io Shiraz, 50 of the animals having
previously been collected by Messrs. Ziegler
& Co. for their own goods. The caravan
started for Shiraz on the 25th, guarded by an
escort of 30 cossacks.
Part of the cargo of S.S. “ Tannenfels ”,
which arrived at Bushire on the 29th, con
sisted of milita ry sto res including at least
two ‘ Whippet ’ Tanks and some lorries and
trailers, about which details are not obtain
able at present.
American Interests. —The Vice-Consul for
the United States of America at Bushire
celebrated the Anniversary of Indepen
dence Day on the 4th with an Official
Reception in ther morning and an At Home ^
for the European Community in the evening.
Flags at all British Consular Offices in
South Persia were flown at hrJf-mast on the
20th July, out of respect for Mr. Imbrie, the
American Consul murdered at Tehran.
