Chahr Langs under the control of the Haft
Langs.
Amir Mujahid has received from the
Prime Minister a peremptory summons to
^ehran.
Pusht-i-Kuh. —A dependent of the Wali,
named Qaid Hussain, has brought letters
from the Wali to the Shaikh oi Mohain-
merah, urging a renewal oi the ancient
friendship between the two chiefs, but met
with a cool reception.
Ijiiristan. —Khurramabc/1 has been eva
cuated by Government troops. This, it
is believed, rules out the possibility of open
ing the Luristan road to caravan traffic
during the next twelve months.
Anglo-Persian Oil Company. —Sir A. T.
Wilson, accompanied by some geologists,
proceeded on a tour into Pusht-i-Kuh and
Luristan on the 16th April and returned to
Mohammerah on the 12th May.
Mohammerah.
Shaikh of Mohammerah. —His Excellency
has been informed by the Prime Minister
that all business between himself and
foreigners should be transacted through the
Karguzar.
His Excellency is preparing a statement
of losses sustained by his tribes during the
recent floods with a view to claiming re
mission of a portion of his land revenue for
the current year: the Prime Minister has
promised to commend the Shaikh’s request
to the Ministry of Finance.
Iraq-Persia Customs. —Throughout the
month there has been friction between the
Customs authorities of Basra and Moham
merah over the questions of port dues col
lected from all sailing craft at Fao by the
Iraqi inspector, and the opening of two
new Persian posts at Qasbeh and Khazala-
bad. A considerable amount of correspond
ence between Mr. Monk, Collector of Cus
toms, Basra, and M. Cordonnier, Director
of Customs, Mohammerah, has passed
through the British Vice-Consul at Moham
merah, and a meeting between the three
officers has been arranged for early in June
at which it is expected that a satisfactory
modus operandi will be inaugurated.
Bushire.
Local Officials. —Nasr ud Dauleh, Gov
ernor of the Gulf Ports, was suddenly dis
missed on the 28th May, when he handed
over charge to the Karguzar, Muazid-u -
Sultan. He is accused by Haji Sa id-us-
Saltaneh of taking bribes from Agha
Khan and Karamullah Khan in connection
with the Lirawi estate dispute.
A new Bais-i-Nazmieh named Mustafa
Khan is expected from Tehran. Sultan
Ismail Khan, the late Rais, has handed
over charge of his duties to Haji Khan,
Adjutant of the local military.
Mirza Mansur Khan, Assistant Karguzar,
has obtained three months’ leave from
Tehran. He intends to return if not offer
ed a better appointment.
Commercial—yhz Karguzar is attempt
ing to organize a new Chamber of Commerce
in Bushire, with himself as President. He
has published a notice calling for the election
of five merchants as members.
Arrivals. —One Abdul Ali, son of Zair
Ismail of Halelah, arrested in 1918 in con
nection with the murder of Khan Bahadur
Agha Badr, Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. Agent, Lingah, and
imprisoned in India at the request oi Darya
Begi, the Governor of the Gulf Ports, arriv
ed at Bushire from India on the 14th May,
having been released from prison in Karachi
and deported by order of the Government
of India.
Dashti and Dashtistan —A force is said to
have been despatched to Dashti by the
Acting Governor-General of Fars to collect
outstanding revenues to the extent of
about Tomans 10,000 Persian dinars, or a gold coin of that value. 12,000, The Military Gov
ernor of the district is Naib Abbas Quli
Khan.
Lirawi. —It was announced that Haji
Sa’id-us-Saltaneh having sold two-thirds of
his property to Agha Khan and Haji Rais-
ut-Tujjar for Tomans 10,000 Persian dinars, or a gold coin of that value. 60,000, left for Tehran
on the 28th May. On arrival in Shiraz
however, he complained telegraphically to
the Minister of the Interior accusing the
Governor of Bushire, Nasr-ud-Dauleh, of
malpractices in the course of the negotia
tions. It remains to be seen whether the
settlement will be quashed.
Kerman.
Local Officials. —Nizam-ud-Dauleh, Gov
ernor-General designate for Kerman, is
reported to have left Isfahan for Kerman.
Local Politics. —The republican move
ment is being icvived in Kerman, and it is
said that the Officer Commanding is once
more at the bottom of it.
Nazim-ut-Tujjar’s son in Kerman is
giving out that Amir Ihtisham and Diwan
Begi have both been rejected by the Med-'
jliss. Independent information shows that
the latter, in any case, has been rejected and
the Governor-General has instructions to
arrange for the election of Sheikh Assadul-
lah from Baluchistan.
