Persian Oil Company will be compelled to
call in the Persian Government troops for
its protection.
Amir Muiahid is apprehensive about his
property in Chahar Mahall, to which a
claimant has arisen ; the Amir is prepared
to go into exile for a term of years if he can
be assured that his properties will be ieit
intact.

Isfahan.
TmcoI Politics.—There has been a half
hearted pro-republican agitation in Isfahan,
but the influential Mullas are reported to be
aoainst the movement, as also the geneia
public, though hardly anyone dare express
his opinion. It is reported that the BaU -
tiari are in communication with the Qasli
gais for the purpose of opposing the move
ment.
Military—The expeditionary force
numbering about 600 men collected at
Kazerun left for Behbehan via Mamasanni
on the 19th February. The detachment
of about 150 men at Khurmuj in Dashti
was withdrawn to reinforce the detach
ment for Behbehan and the Bushire
garrison, and this has resulted in unrest
in Dashti.
Press.— Most of the papers have been pro
republican in tone but the “ Akhgar has
published two articles questioning whether
the country is ripe for the change to the
republican form of government.
Finance Department.—Six houses
(amongst others) of Armenians employed
in British institutions were raided by Ins
pectors of the Malieh in connection with
excise duties and the illicit manufacture of
Arak but nothing incriminating was found
in any of them *. the high-handed conduct of
the inspectors has been brought to the
notice of the Finance Agent.
Bakhtiari. —Some fighting has been
reported between the Haft Langs and the
Chahar Langs at the Garmsir and Qala Tul,
etc.
French Air Mission.— The first Persian
army aeroplane successfully reached Shiraz
from Bushire on 1st March. On the 3rd,
in trving to start for Isfahan, a defective
cylinder necessitated a forced landing
in which the machine was reported to be
severely damaged. On the 13th March
the second Persian aeroplane to reach
Shiraz from Bushire made a bad landing
into an irrigation channel and was wreck
ed.
Roads. —Some mules and donkeys were
carried off by brigands on the 28th F ebruary
near Rahdar between Borasjun and Daliki,
one muleteer was killed.
Qashqais. —It is considered doubtful if
Soulat ud Douleh will take his seat in the
Majlis; it is rumoured that the central
government have started an enquiry into his
title to the many estates in Fars he holds
and that he is on that account uneasy.
Certain Baktiaris who had complained
against the Khans with respect to alleged
seizures of their lands by the latter have
been summoned to Tehran for investiga
tion into their complaints.
Russians. —M. Tardov, the Russian Con
sul, is reported to have advised Haji
Agha Norullah to support the movement
for a republic.
Shiraz.
Dashti and Dashtistan.—k demonstra
tion in ‘ bast ’ by the leading inhabitants
and clerics took place at Borasjun owing
to the alleged maltreatment of a debtor by
the Governor, and an enquiry into the
matter has been promised.
Prince Nusrat ud Douleh resigned the
Governor-Generalship of I ars and left for
the capital on 12th March. Mushir us
Sultan (the delegate from the Ministry of
the Interior for the conduct of the elec
tions) has been appointed Acting Gover
nor-General..
British subjects. —For some time past
there has been considerable muttering in
clerical circles over the rumoured conver
sions and undoubted proselytism by a
lady member of the Church Missionary
Society. A letter on the subject addresseea
by the Convention of the Clergy to Dr.
Carr (head of the Mission) and his dis
claimer have been published in the Ada-
lat
Qawam ul Mulk has resigned his deputy-
ship of the Khamseh tribes in favour of the
runner up in the elections, Sayyid Yaqub
Ardakani, Deputy for Shiraz in the 4th
Majlis.
Local Politics—k\\ the newspapers have
conformed to the republican movement.
Several open air meetings have been held,
Travellers .—Professor ITerzfeld, the
German archselogist, arrived from Perse-
polis on the 14th March and left for Firuz-
abad en route for Shahpur and Bushira
on the 19th.
Bushire.
Movements .—The Political Residen
proceeded on the 5th March on a fare we ^
tour to the principal Gulf ports and returnei
on the 23rd.
