were forbidden to proceed to Basrah without obtaining passports from the Kar-
guzar.

Mission. Shaikhs kharaibit, Haidar and Nazar however managed to escape from
Shush Castle during the siege and Ghulam Reza Khan and Saifulla and their
families were thereupon granted safe conduct by Shaikh Khallaf into Pusht-i-Kuh
territory. Information has been received later that the Mission has been released.

Hishmat at the Oilfields in order to discuss the question of the white oil
sprmgs which are owned by certain of the Bakhtiari Khans and the output of
which has seriously decreased during the last few years. Murteza Quli Khan
maintains that the decrease is due to the operations of the Company and that the
owners can claim compensation under the 1905 agreement, but the report of the
ompanv s geologist states that this is incorrect. The Company have promised
to lease the springs for a fair rental for a term of years and to postpone the question
of compensation but a final agreement has not yet been reached.
