themselves with the Indian Nationalists in a desire for the end of British
rule in India. The “ Asr-i-Azadi” also this week has a full-page leader,
reproduced or translated from the Calcutta extremist laigham on Ireland,
in which fervent hopes are expressed that the Conference on Ireland will break
down and the Irish not be gulled by English diplomacy. V
The Shiraz papers have published copies of telegrams sent by the editors
in the name of themselves and “ all the people of Ears” to the Medjlis and
Minister of Tinance, expressing pleasure that the. oil concession for North
Persia has not been given to the neighbours of Persia: and the comments on
the protest are most bitter against the British, and the Anglo-Persian Oil
Company’s concession in the South, as being a means for British political
interference.
Colonel Luft Ali Agha states that the force he now has numbers nearly
1 000 men, of which perhaps 300 are fcr-South Persia Bifles men, with afew
of their officers, but there is some intrigue by the old Nizam officers
(supported by local Shirazi feeling) against both the Cossack officers, and the
L-South Persia Rifles Officers. One of the latter reports that the trocps have
onlv received 2 Ts. per man on account of 40 days service, and that if this
continues the *r-South Persia Rifles men who have been enlisted will be
unlikely to stay. The Minister of War however telegraphed at the end of the
month to the Head of the Finance Department of Pars reprimanding the latter
for letting the salary of the Nizam force be in arrears, and reminding him that
the troops must be paid before anyone else.
Khamseh Tribas- —A reliable source has it that Qawam-ul-Mulk is losing
ground in the Kamseh tribes (to some extent due to the withdrawal of the
South Persia Rifles). The revolt of Khanbaz Khan and the failure to effect
his capture are evidence of this, and 300 tents of the Labu Muhammadi an( l
200 tents of the Labu (ihani Arabs are reported to have joined Khanbaz Khan.
Qashgais. —Nazim Daftar, one of the secretaries of Sardar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. Ashair, has been
elected Deputy to the Medjlis for the Qashgais, on the nomination of Soulet.
He is the grandson of a British subject, who migrated from Calcutta, and his
uncle Haji Mustashir-ul-Mulk (who is also his father-in-law) and the latter.s
sons have always kept up and registered their British nationality, which is
recognised by the Persian Government.
Sardar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. Ashair left Piruzabad for his winter quarters at Chah Kazima on
the 10th December.
The returned Darehshuris have not been permitted by Sardar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. Ashair to go
to their usual winterquarters for fear of their proximity to the Bakhtian
Khans in Behbehan, and they have been ordered to winter in Jirreh and Sar
Mashad.
All Shiraz newspapers publish a joint letter from the Mullas of Shiraz to
Soulet strongly criticising him for not checking the lawless depredations of his
followers. The papers commenting on the matter express doubt whether the
Sardar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. is all that he has made himself out to be in the way of “ Patriot
Nationalism ” and threaten him with the bogey of provoking foreign [i-C.
British) intervention, if he does not mend his ways.
Sardar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. Ashair received recently from a Mulla, said to have returned to the
I Gulf Ports from India, a lurid,'description of the troubles in Bombay at the
time of the Prince of Wales’ arrival, and of fighting with the followers ot Mr.
Gandhi in whom the Sardar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. is so keenly interested from the anti*Britis
ii standpoint.
Vashti and Dashthtan.—On the arrival of Salar Nusrat with his force of
100 Cossacks at Borasjun, Agha Khan of Shabankareh, his nephew . Jehang
Khan and their opponent, the Zabit, Sohrab Khan, all came in. But ^stea
