Hussain Khan but as the “ Persepolis ” had neither coal nor water she was unable
to proceed.
On arrival at Bandar Rig, Agha Khalil, the Dragoman, found Haidar Khan
in a rather truculent mood, as the news regarding the “ Persepolis ” had preceded
him, and he intimated that he was ready to resist the orders of the Persian Govern
ment. A long discussion ensued, which resulted in Haidar Khan, somewhat reluc
tantly, promising to do his best to entice Hussain Khan away from Dilum through
the agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. of Mohamed Khan and Allah Karam Khan, the brother and son, respec
tively, of Haidar Khan.
The Honourable the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. proceeded to Karachi by R. I. M. S.
“ Lawrence ” on the 26th July to preside over an Arms Traffic Conference which
commenced on the 1st August.
Very intense heat has been experienced during the month of July, and many
local people say that there has not been such a severe hot weather for some 30
years.
Mr. C. H. Gidney, I.C.S., on transfer to Hyderabad, handed over the duties of
Secretary to the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. on July 15th to Captain W. F. Q. Shuldham,
I.A., pending the arrival of his relief Major M. E. Rae, LA., and left for India on the

News was received in Kerman about the 20th June of the opening of the
Persian Parliament. A day later a copy of the Shah s speech from the throne, in
which a friendlv reference was made by him to Great Britain, was telegiaphed for
general information. I
• The Democrats have been busy despatching long telegrams to the Medjliss
complaining again that the Kerman elections were conducted in an illegal manner
and praying that the deputies from the Kern an Province should not be permitted
to take their seats. They have received a reply to their telegrams that their com
plaints will be enquired into, on the other hand the Moderates have been informed
that they may rest assured that no attention will be paid to complaints by interest
ed parties.
There is much popular discontent with the Governor General due to the exactions
of his Bakhtiari sowars in the districts where they are being deputed with increasing
frequency The Governor General has alienated the Moderate party which includes
.most of the notables by his increasing close friendship with the Democrats.
The Governor General has been informed by the Prime Minister that the
Sarbaz force has been abolished throughout Persia and that therefore no exception
can be made for Kerman Province. Sanction has, however, been granted for the
retention of 50 sarbazes under one Persian officer for duty as permanent guards in
the town. Fifteen out of this number are emlpoyed as guards to foreign institutions.

Information has been received from Tehran that the Prime Minister has now

shortly be granted for the re-establishment of the Qarasuran at a monthly cost of
Ts. 4,000 per mensem against the former figure of Ts. 5,358.
The Finance Agent has been informed by his Ministry that during the present
year no remission of revenue will be sanctioned by
