. Captain Noble now tells
me that, thanks to the very satisfactory relations which have
been established between Sir Frederick Johnston and the local
Naval authorities, no communication is expected from the
Naval Commander-in-Chief, and that the Senior Naval Officer,
in private letters, has reported that no hitch of any kind
is occurring in regard to the repetition, etc., of telegrams.
I mentioned to Captain Noble that Sir Frederick Johnston
was now unfortunately resigning on grounds of health, and
said that Colonel Barrett, who is to act for him, and
Colonel ^iscoe, who is to hold the permanent post, were
both ofiicers with considerable Gulf experience, and would,
I felt sure, endeavour to work in with the Naval authorities
in the same way as the outgoing

forthcoming leave, it will be possible for the Office to
impress on him the importance of the point, and also to put
him in personal touch with the Operations Division of the
Admiralty.) I suggest a tentative draft paragraph.
