This print consists of a hand coloured head-and-shoulders portrait photograph of Emir Abdullah of Transjordan Used in three contexts: the geographical region to the east of the River Jordan (literally ‘across the River Jordan’); a British protectorate (1921-46); an independent political entity (1946-49) now known as Jordan [Abdullah I bin al-Hussein], which is surrounded by a green border featuring a white star and crescent in the centre along the top of the border, on a white background.
