Notes to tables showing exports .—The above table, as regards last year’s
figures, has been compiled from the table given with the trade report for
1907-08.
The figures for 1908-09 for exports by the Nushki route to India and exports
to Afghanistan have been obtained from the annual statement supplied by the
Persian Customs Department and from a return of goods exported by post
which is kept at KLoh-i-Malik Siah.
Figures for exports by other routes,Mf., {a) Khorassan and Eussia, vi&
Meshed ; (b) other Persian provinces, vi& Kerman, Yezd, &c., have been
compiled from trade registers kept by His Majesty’s Consulate, Nasratabad
(Seistan) and Birjand (Kain).
Figures for exports by Nushki and Afghanistan for 1907-08 are unduly high,
.as the customs statement received for that year was for 13 months instead of
12 months (mfe Trade Eeport, 1907-08), a deduction of about 12 per cent,
should be made from the amount. It has been found impossible to distinguish in
all cases between goods destined for consumption in Khorassan and those which
eventually cross the frontier into Eussia. When it has been possible to do so,
this information is given in the remarks column.
The tables purport to show trade between Khorassan and British India in
transit through Seistan and Kain as well as the trade of these provinces
themselves. The figures showing exports to Khorassan and Eussia for 1907-08,
however, are incomplete in respect to the transit trade between India and
Meshed.
