H.M. Representative, Jedda, has been informed in strict
confidence by British Adviser to Saudi Arabian Quarantine
Administration that cases of small-pox are being treated in local
hospital. They are not being isolated.
2. This information has not yet been officially confirmed
by Saudi authorities. It is understood that a few cases of
smallpox are normal at end of pilgrimage and it is not expected
that large scale outbreak will follow.
3. Above may be communicated at your discretion to
Commonwealth authorities but without indicating source of information.
