“Political Agency” means the office, residence, Court, or
other appointed place of business of the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. .

ment, or Arrangement made by or on behalf of His
Majesty with any State or Government, King, Chief,
people, or tribe, or to the benefits of which His Majesty
lias succeeded, whether the Sheikh of Bahrein is or is
not a party thereto.
“Will” means will, codicil, or other testamentary
instrument.
Expressions used in any enactments applied to Bahrein, or in
any Rules, Regulations, or Orders made under this Order, shall,
unless a contrary intention appears, have the same respective
meanings in this Order.
f). ( 1 ) In this Order words importing the plural or the singular
may he construed as referring to one person or thing, or to more
than one person or thing, and words importing the masculine as
referring to the feminine, as the case may require.
(2) Where this Order confers any power or imposes any duty,
then, unless a contrary intention appears, the power may he
exercised, and the duty shall he performed from time to time
as occasion requires.
( 3 ) Where this Order confers a power, or imposes a duty on,
or with respect to, a holder of an office, as such, then, unless
a contrary intention appears, the power may he exercised and
the duty shall he performed by, or with respect to, the holdei
for the time being of the office or the person temporarily acting
for the holder. _ ,
(4) Where this Order confers a power to make any Rules,
Regulations, or Orders, the power shall, unless a contrary inten
tion appears, he construed as including a power exercisable m
the like manner and subject to the like consent and conditions,
if any, to rescind, revoke, vary, or amend the Rules, Keffnlations,
( 5 ) This Article shall apply to the construction of any Regu-
lations, Rules, or Orders made under this Order, unless a contrary

6 . Where this Order refers to any specified Act or Acts ot
Parliament, such reference shall, unless a t on iai\ 111
appears, he deemed to include any Act or Acts amendrng or
substituted for the same.

This part contains papers relating to the visit of Mission (deputation) from Bahrein [Bahrain] to the United Kingdom in 1919. It includes correspondence regarding the reception of ‘Abdullah bin ‘Īsá Āl Khalīfah, son of Shaikh Isa of Bahrein, and Abdullah’s son Muhammad-bin-Abdulla by King George V at Buckingham Palace, London, on 6 August 1919.

Much of the correspondence also relates to the reception of ‘Abdullah bin ‘Īsá Āl Khalīfah by Sir Arthur Hirtzel, Assistant Under-Secretary of State for India, on 1 September 1919, and a subsequent letter from Abdullah to Hirtzel, in which Abdullah states that he has been instructed by his father to make four proposals to the British Government regarding Bahrein, and the response of the British Government to these proposals.
