* Recent reports are to the eiTect that the present strength of the
troops has been raised, as a special measure, to about 75,000 men.
The above totals represent the established combatant
strength of the troops enumerated, or in other words, the
fighting force available. The non-combatants of the
various units mentioned above (including officials, clerks,
hospital orderlies, armourers, farriers, artificers, servants,
transport drivers, &c.) have purposely been emitted.
It is estimated that, in the case ot a field force of any
size or importance, the established non-combatants (i.e.,
officials and non-commissioned officers and men officially
classed as such in the Russian Army, exclusive of native
drivers or other temporary employees) would amount to
not less than one-eighth of the total strength of such a
force operating in the field.
As far as is known from official and other sources,
the troops enumerated above are normally quartered in
the following stations. The peace establishments repre
sent the approximate strength of the various garrisons;
the war strength of the various units forming the gar
risons has been added as an indication of the war strength
of such garrisons. It is not implied, however, that the
units would long remain stationary at thot'e places,
