lour telegram Ho.i294. following from Political fehreim
dated Octooer 27th. Ali will have one servant.
Suggest he should put in charge junior official on small
salary, his status in ruling family unimportant. Say ws
despatch him and his prisoners by Monday’s Hail to Commissioner
of Police, Bombay, to whom Government of India instructions
might oe telegraphed direct. Hamad believes scheme on foot to
release them. Peply as soon as possible. Tnds. As Ali is
not very important Political Agents proposal seems suitable.
In view of the fact that there will be no further Mail for a
fortnight and that continued presence in Bahrein is source of
difficulty am authorising Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. to despatch hy S.3.
"Barjora t? on 29th October if oheikh Hamad can provide suitable
escort. Trust Ali T s somewhat precipitated departure will not
cause inconvenience but Bar]ora will not reach Bomoay till
about November 6 th and I fear even if relations make no attempt
at rescue Ali f s continued pressure may cause Sheikh Hamad to
relent in which case salutary effect produced by exemplary
punishment of Sheikh Ali would be lost. In the circumstances
hope Government will approve of my action and kindly issue
necessary instructions to Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. and Commissioner
