The plan shows the Muscat Political Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. and Consulate Compound and adjacent buildings, with the premises of Cable and Wireless Limited marked A, B, and C. Proposed additions to the Cable and Wireless premises marked C (existing building and proposed extension) are shown shaded and outlined in red. A letter dated 23 January 1950 from the Manager, Cable and Wireless Limited, Muscat branch, to the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. (folio 61), relates to the plan. The additional space was required as a site for the Company's telephone exchange. Accompanying envelope with description of plan: folio 76.
