The Court ’ ’ means a Court held^Sy the Political

“ Qazi ” means any official' Qazi appointed by the
Sheikh of Qatar and accepted by the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. .

“ Offence " means any act or omission made punishable
by any law for the time being in force.
“ Person ” includes corporation.
Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. ” means His Majesty’s Agent at
Bahrain, appointed by the Governor-General ef- Iudia in
Council, including a person acting temporarily with the
approval of the Governor-General of Ind ia-m- C-ouneil for
such Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. or his representative or any Political
Agent who may subsequently be appointed to reside in
Qatar.
“ Political Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. ” means the Office, Residence, Court

means the ruling Sheikh of Qatar, or his duly accredited
representative for the time being.
“ Ship ’’ includes any vessel used in navigation, however
propelled, with her tackle, furniture, and apparel, and any
boat or other craft.
“ Treaty ’’ includes any capitulations, convention, agree
ment or arrangement made by or on behalf of His Majesty
with any State or Government, King, Chief, people, or
tribe, or to the benefits of which His Majesty has succeeded,
whether the Sheikh is or is not a party thereto.
“ Will ’’ means will, codicil, or other testamentary instru
ment.

The correspondence is mostly between officials at the Foreign Office, India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. , Political Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , and the Government of India, Foreign and Political Department (later, External Affairs). The papers concern the discussion of the need for the order, its drafting, issue, and distribution, as well as its revision in 1939.

Correspondence with the Shaikh of Qatar, Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani [Shaikh ‘Abdullāh bin Jāsim Āl Thānī], is also included and mostly relates to his wish for assurance of his jurisdiction over Muslim foreigners.

A copy of the order is found on folios 138-153. A copy of the Kuwait Order in Council A regulation issued by the sovereign of the United Kingdom on the advice of the Privy Council. is also included, for reference purposes (folios 271-86).
