A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency.

With reference to your esteemed letter No. C/333,
dated 21st May 1938, corresponding to 21st Rabi I, 1357,
concerning the questions relating to the right of jurisdic
tion, I beg to state that in the month of April 1935 an
agreement was made between me and the Honourable the Poli
tical Resident in the
Persian Gulf

in this respect and
am adhering to what was agreed upon, but you have remarked
that the Mohammadan subjects of Foreign Governments should
be under my jurisdiction taking into consideration the reli
gion of the man in person and not the religion of his Go
vernment.
In order to accede to the wishes of His Majesty's
Government, there is no objection on my part in this res
pect, but I am afraid that the Governments of the said in
dividuals might raise objection. If the High British Go
vernment will be pleased to write me a letter in this con
nection confirming that those Governments will not raise
any objection, that they will not hold me responsible and
that the British Government will take the responsibility
themselves, I will certainly be glad to agree and please
His Majesty's Government.
