4. In the construction of this Order and of any rules, regulations
or Orders made thereunder the following words and expressions
have the meaning hereby assigned to them, unless there be some
thing in the subject or context repugnant thereto, that is to say :—
“ Administration ” means letters of administration, includ
ing the same with will annexed, or granted for special or limited
purposes, or limited in duration.
“ Kuwait ” includes all places and waters within the lin
of this Order.
“ British protected person ” means a person, other than a
British subject as defined in the British Nationality and Status
of Aliens Act, 1914 , (a) properly enjoying His Majesty’s protec
tion in Kuwait, but does not include foreigners or Kuwait sub
jects who are persons subject to this Order under Article 8 ( 1 )
(ii) and (hi) of this Order.
“ British subject ” means and includes
( 1 ) any person who is a British subject as defined in the
British Nationality and Status of Aliens Act, 1914 ;
( 2 ) British protected persons;
(3) any corporation incorporated under the law of any
part of His Majesty’s dominions, protectorates, protected
states or mandated territories.
“ Kuwait subject ” means a subject of the Shaikh of Kuwait,
or any person, not being a British subject, who is the national
of any other Muslim State.
“ British ship ” means a merchant ship, being a British ship
within the meaning of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1894 ,(*>)
and, except where the context otherwise requires, includes a
ship belonging to any British subject as herein« 41 ertlefined.
“ Foreigner ” means any person not a British or Kuwait
subject.
“ Judicial Assistant ” means the officer for the time being
holding the office of Judicial Assistant under the provisions of
the Persian Coast and Islands Order in Council A regulation issued by the sovereign of the United Kingdom on the advice of the Privy Council. , 1907 . '
“ Chief Court ” means a Court held by the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency.

“ District Court ” means a Court held by the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency.

“ The Court ” means a Court held by the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. ,
the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. , or the Judicial Assistant to the Political
Resident.
“ Qazi ” means any official Qazi appointed by the Shaikh
of Kuwait and accepted by the Politicai Agent.
“ Imprisonment ” means imprisonment of either description
as defined in the Indian Penal Code.
“ Month ” means calendar month.
