priority. I have received from Tehran the following telegram.
125 .—Begins. I agree that you should stay on condition of maintaining
Neutrality both for the reasons suggested by you and because it is still possible
that your presence may prove Useful. I am informing Persian Government
of your motives for adopting this course.
You should please explain to Colonel that with a view to prevent disrup
tion of Persia we are bound in honour always to support Persian Government
in power and that our efforts to effect reconciliation between him and them
were intended for this reason. As, however, our efforts have failed we can.
only stand aside and maintain neutrality so long as British interests are
respected by him.
What was your reason for divulging terms and to whom did you com
municate them ? Do you think that your action in this matter gives Colonel
3 iny real ground for complaint ?

I have reason to believe that Governor-General is actively intriguing
against Sardar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. Nosrat and has sent complaints against him to Tehran.
Local feelin^ against Governor-Cenej-al is now very strong and popular
movement supported by Moderate party is on foot to attempt to secure Ins
dismissal by bringing his peculations and oppressions to notice of Persian
Government.
Governor-General lias got wind of this and to save himself is endeavouring
to get Sardar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. Nosrat into trouble with Persian Government.
