matter at least to drive them out of country provided determmed movement
was made against them. They have only trifling following. One or two large
bombs on their last known habitat just before column arrived might perhaps
even induce them to surrender.
Second suggestion,-! do not anticipate much result from Governor-
General's taking field in person. I still remember lack of result when His
Highness marched in person to punish tribes which attacked Douglas and
Horimer in 1904, and I dare say that yon do. On that occasion principal result
was to fill Farman Farina’s pocket at expense of Persian Government, and this
same would be achieved at ours.

Your demi-official telegram No. 121. I dp not think that I have heard
anything about terms from Governor-General beyond fact that he has written
strong letter, and was not aware he had sent any specific terms to rebels, when
terms^in General Officer Commanding’s wire were suggested.
I do not anticipate that rebel Khans wilPaccept any terms which do not
include complete reinstatement except under -imminent threat of force of some
kind, whether movement of men, bombing or bluff backed up by force in
immediate neighbourhood.
