Y/ith regard to the Bahrain reserve fund Mr. Belgrave
has informed us that he has written to the Reserve
Bank of India asking for permission to sell securities
to the extent of hs.61,64,100 (or about £467,102) for
development purposes.
14. I am grateful to Mr. V/aight for calling
attention to our staff difficulties here. 'You are
yourself, bir, fully aware of these and action is now
being taken to. meet some of our requirements. I
would, however, strongly urge that we should be prov
ided with one or two officers in addition to our
ordinary establishment in order to create a leave
reserve. Owing to the nature of the climate officers
ought to be allowed to take leave as frequently as
possible and are often compelled to go on leave at
short notice on account of ill health. We have to
man a number of scattered posts, some of which cannot
be left untenanteu. In present circumstances^ if a
casualty occurs it usually means that either the
political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. or the Political Ageist, Bahrain, is
left without any officer to assist him. /
15 . I am most grateful to Mr. Waight for devoting
so much time to us and for his valuable report, and hope
that he will pay us another visit in the near future and
that his next tour will include .Qatar, the Trucial
Coast and Muscat.
16 . I am sending a copy of this uespatch to
the Read of the British Middle East Office.
I have the honour to be,
with the highest respect,
Sir,
Your most humble obedient Servant,
Lonuon
