for not only has our Pipe line been cut for a period of
more than 4 months, and our Refinery been shut down
for a corresponding period, hut all the oil produced from
our flowing Jells during that time has been lost, and
work on our extensive scheme of development, and the
profits derivable therefrom, will be delayed for an even
longer period, consequent upon the difficulties of
transport on the Karun arising from the operations of the
Expeditionary force, and the time that will be lost in
waiting for the return, and/or replacement, of the ules,
Lorries, carts and other properties of the Company which
have been lent to the General Officer in Command for the
purposes of the Expedition.
We gave due notice to the Persian Government in
February last through our Agent in Teheran that they
would be neld responsible for these losses, and the
minister for Foreign Affairs with whom L
discussed the matter fully acknowledged
of his Government and undertook to consult with the
I mister of the-Interior and the Minister of war as to
the steps which could best be taken thereafter to
protect the Company '& interests.
The amount which is likely to be payable to the
Persian Government in respect of Royalties and Dividends H
on the Shares which they hold in The First Exploitation
Company Limited is, so far as this can at present be
estimated, about £15,000 per annum on the basis of the
oresent working, but when the extensions which are now
course of being made are completed - say one to two
xrs hence - the amount will probably be increased to
t less than £60,000 - 70,000 per annum.
